Marlin 99M1 Serial Number
Left side under the rear site. That's where it is on my 99M1. Marlin Lever Action Rifle Serial Numbers 1883 to 1906 (Including Models 1881, 1888, 1889, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895 and 1897.) Note that records are chaotic as all models were numbered in a single serial number range, and numbers are often duplicated, and the dates recorded are apparently shipping dates, not. I bought what is supposed to be a Marlin model 99 from a guy. It does say Model 99 on the barrel but I can't find a serial number externally anywhere.
SOLD This is an early 1965 Marlin 99M1. No serial number. This wonderful little rifle looks like it was placed in a closet soon after purchase and forgotten. The painted receiver shows very little wear. This 99M1 has the original rear sight and looks like it has never been moved.
The metal is in 95% plus range (no rust), wood having very light handling marks with original shoulder strap and a factory carving of a Squirrel on but stock. This Marlin 99M1 appears to be mechanically excellent with 18' barrel having a bright bore. All original with one exception The small front trigger guard screw is missing. Local sale only.
There is some confusion about how Marlin Firearms used their serial numbers to ID the year of manufacture. As of late 2013, a Marlin.22 RF rifle (XT-22 Mag) had a serial number prefix of MM reported and verified.
