Harman Kardon Software Update Avr 1700 Denon
RS232 firmware upgrade support. 145W output before. Review: I know the Denon will perform and sound great and has a slight edge as far as audio quality over HK (THD curves are better). >AVR 1700 shows an update warning screen. >software update can only be performed. My friend returned the Harman Kardon and bought a Denon at twice. There is nothing in the user manual about this problem. For anyone who has found this thread because their AVR 1700 is stuck in BCO Update mode, I wanted to post a the solution that worked for me this morning. If done correctly, you will be looking at the Harman Kardon web interface for the receiver.

I'm trying to extract firmware for the Harman Kardon AVR 1700, with the eventual goal of modifying it but mostly just for fun. (This is a networked receiver and it has a remote app that can be used to control the device.
Unfortunately, it's horribly unreliable, and I'd much prefer to get shell access to the device and write some basic software to be able to control it remotely from my computer.) There's a firmware update available (EU version is numbered 170 but otherwise identical), which I installed recently. This is a fairly small file (~3MB unpacked), so I'm not sure whether it contains the full firmware or I'm just not used to the small size of embedded OS's.
